Some things or events occurs, which gets embedded in the memory of not one person but of the whole race or population and that information is passed from one generation to another and become a legend. One of these events was severe flooding which has been rooted in the memory of mankind in a large scale as it appears from various legends, not only of India, but also from different parts of the world. The legend of the flood is a memory of humanity as that is where the legends of tribes and civilizations, past and present, of Celtic in the north of India and also mentioned in the Old Testament. I call this global catastrophe because of the geographical distribution of this legend. To be present in the legends of many civilizations and tribes, this disaster must have been on a large scale.
